Social Studies: We have started our 7th unit. The essential question for the unit is: What is the Significance of the U.S. Constitution?
Spelling: We're taking a week off spelling this week. We'll be using the time to study the Bill of Rights.
Language Arts: Our final literature theme is Animal Encounters The theme concept: People and wild animals interact in a variety of close encounters. The theme works well with our emphasis on reading and comprehending nonfiction.
Grammar: contractions, words with prefixes, prepositions, prepositional phrases, sentence combining.
Math: We're wrapping up Chapter 17 and beginning Chapter 18 this week. The test for Chaprter 17 will be Friday May 4.
Science: We have started our third and final unit: Life Science. We will be learning about basic structures of organisms and human body systems.
Writing: Taking inspriation from our literature unit, we will be writning about our own animal encounters.
P.E. The fifth graders will be taking a physical fitness test in May. We will train for that test at least 4 days a week. We run laps, do push ups, crunches, trunk lifts, and stretches. I recommend all students wear or bring shoes and clothes for running every school day. Computers: Sadly, we have to say good-bye to our PC Pals on May 1. It's been a great learning experience for the students.
